Daniels discloses plan for 70,000 conventioneers plus. Call Congress and object!

Just before Daniels executed the lease for the central core of Saint Edward State Park, he revealed plan of 70,000 convention goers per year, with no cap on that number, at a semi-public meeting in early May 2018. The lease had gone through several revisions at the prompting of his attorneys with a "final" edition released to the broader public January 9, 2018, though that edition was not signed. Daniels executed the lease in June 2018, and to-date the signed lease has not been made public. The "final revised lease" is very general with no cap on the annual number of convention goers, and there is no ability for Washington State to cancel the lease if Daniels wants to change the use, which puts the State in an economically vulnerable position should Daniels renege on his public promises like a parking garage. Kevin Daniels paid $1.5M to take over core of park. Public paid $3M for recent renovations.

Kevin Daniels, developer, paid $1.5M to take over core of park, three buildings and 5.5 acres with more land accessible for parking. In the lease, State Parks cannot deny any reasonable request of this developer, with "reasonable" in the lease, not defined. Daniels purchased waterfront land that does not equal what he is taking. Daniels deeded that land to State Parks June 22, 2018, then signed the lease. The McDonalds had been trying to sell this land for decades, at one time offering it to State Parks for $400,000. The lot had been shunned by developers because of its steep hazard slope and disappearing beach; the setbacks make it questionable as even one home building site. What’s changed since the 2016 plan to re-purpose the park was presented to the public? Just about everything. At a legally required public meeting February 9, 2016, Kevin Daniels, the developer, and Michael Hankinson, public relations spokesperson for Washington State Parks, spoke glowingly to 400 of us about re-purposing the Seminary. Since, it has become apparent that Daniels performed a classic bait and switch. Unfortunately, public meetings that followed were not so well attended, nor publicized, and the plan with little input from the public morphed to whatever Daniels decides with few protections for the park in the lease.
